Low Bid? No Bid? Ford’s Theatre Not Closing
Back in March we reported on Ford’s Theatre closing for renovations after the Gala held here last weekend. Well we now direct your attention to this article in Washington Post stating that the National Park Service “did not get adequate bids for the $8.5 million renovations.”
According to the article Ford’s Theatre opens to the public once again this morning. The Post is reporting that the Theatre could stay open for just a few months, or possibly much longer.

Yes, I also love the productions here.
I just wish they would improve the seating…they are killers on your butt and back.
Agree with both comments above. Mrs Columbo & I watched 1776 a year or two back. It was a great show, but almost impossible to sit still for such a long time on those horrible seats. 1776 is fun enough to take your mind off the butt-numbing seats for the most part. But I’d only go back again for shorter productions.
The productions are good, and the seats aren’t the most comfy. But for me, the biggest plus of the renovation was going to be the upgrade to the bathrooms. The mechanisms were old and often broken and the latches on the stalls in ladies room didn’t work.
Whenever a co-worker takes her elderly (80s and 90s) releatives to Ford’s for a production, they always have dinner at Hard Rock first so her folks can use the facilities there.
I hope they get the contracts in place soon.
Anon 12:28; your story reminds me of the time I’d seen folks try to use the rest rooms as Bistro D’OC at intermission. Bistro D’OC did not allow it (paying customers only), and they were constantly having to send folks over the Hard Rock.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
For anyone who has not experienced a production at the Ford’s Theatre (run do not walk) for you have missed quite a treat. They consistently have a broad range of productions, to suit every taste. It is one of the most intimate evenings of entertainment anywhere. Hopefully the Park Service will get the bids it needs, this place is a national treasure. I have seen many productions there over the years and have enjoyed each and every one.
