Hanging At The NPG/AAM East Steps
This is now a sight we are accustomed to seeing since the east steps of the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum reopened after the museum’s renovations. People sit on the steps and talk or laugh or couples hold each other or enjoy their takeout. After walking up to McDonald’s for a weekly $1 hot fudge sundae (no “Government Employee Specials” at the 7th Street McD’s), this writer sat on the top steps one weeknight day last week for about thirty minutes scooping at vanilla and hot fudge, watching the crowds go by and generally enjoying a relaxing evening. There’s a nice elevated view of 7th Street and all the activity from that vantage point. Try it some time. We liked it and you might too.

This could be nice for some people, but when I walk by this area there are nothing but young high school punks sitting out there loitering and swearing. Also, stop comparing DC to NYC…DC will never be and should never try to emulate NYC….stop trying to force the District to be something which it clearly isn’t…

It’s like DC’s version of the MoMA. How fun.
