History on Foot: The Grange
Near the intersection of 4th and Madison Dr. NW, on the edge of the National Mall there’s a beautiful lane of trees. A small plaque notes that near this site in 1867, The National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry was founded.
From the National Grange’s website:
The National Grange, founded in 1867, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, fraternal organization that advocates for rural America and agriculture. With a strong history in grassroots activism, family values and community service, the Grange is part of more than 2,100 hometowns across the United States.
