It’s Never Too Early for New Year’s Plans

Posted by Columbo
November 21, 2007

There are almost too many options in this city for New Year’s, but if you don’t make plans early you miss out on many of the most popular parties (and the cheaper prices).  Like many in DC, our email inbox starts to get filled with New Year’s offers this time of year, but one in particular caught our eyes:

New Year’s Eve 2008 The Final Night of the Hotel Washington

The ad of course is breathlessly worded with phrases like “closing its doors forever,” and “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”  The Hotel Washington is closing, but that’s because it was sold and is closing for renovations, to reopen as a high end W Hotel.

We haven’t made our New Year’s plans yet, but we’re going to have to start soon.  What will you all be doing for New Year’s?

Ah and argh. New Year’s. NYE is a fun time, but man, what a pain too. Always such an ordeal. No clue yet, but guess it’s time to start getting in gear on that, huh?

I am spending the evening inside my living room this year. I will be in Paris over the holidays, so a low-key night will be just what I am looking for when I return.

I will be heading to a Masquerade Ball at the Carnegie Library! It is being hosted by a local band, Scythian, and is sure to be a great time, with several bands, an open bar, and great atmosphere! What’s better than being able to walk home after celebrating the New Year??! I went last year and had a blast.

Check it out at http://www.scythianmusic.com.

So the period seems to have thrown off the link.

Go to http://www.scythianmusic.com for more info on the Mad, Mad Masquerade.

Going to the Downtown Countdown, got our tickets already! I is amazing how quickly the price of tickets starts going up the closer you get to the new year!

We learned from last year, you got to act early!

Went to Montreal last year and it was a blast- inspite of the freakin’ cold weather. This year, though, with the dropping dollar value, gotta stay within US borders…(sigh)

#3, Mrs Columbo & I went to that Scythian/Carnegie event last year. We’ve seen Scythian a few times, they’re always fun, but that venue is just too small a main space for them to play. When they went on last year the dance floor turned into a mash pit as folks tried to squeeze into the floor to hear them. You wouldn’t think a band like Scythian would inspire fights, but we saw several as people pushed forward to the front.

We were much bigger fans of the Christopher Robin band, one of the other two bands who played that night. If they were going to be there this year we’d go, but I checked the schedule and they’re out, so we’ve got to find another venue this year.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
