Like yummy, greasy, BBQ? Then, this weekend’s Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle is for you. Both Saturday (11a to 9p) and Sunday (11a to 7:30 p) will see Penn Ave from 9th St to 14th St closed for a tasty time. The BBQ challenge (pork, beef or chicken) is on Saturday and the National Pork BBQ Championship (pork only) is on Sunday and there’s money at stake. Lots of live music is also lined up. So get your chicken, beef or pork on and don’t forget to schedule time with your trainer the following week to work it all off. $10 for adults, $5 for kids.

This BBQ thing is one of my biggest pet peeves about festivals on Penn Ave. You should NOT be allowed to close down that street unless your event is free and open to the public. Being allowed to cross the street only when an escort happens to show up is completely unacceptable on America’s main street.
