As pointed out already a grocery store we will soon have. I believe a hardware store (from the people who own Logan Hardware) is scheduled to open in MVT as well.
So I voted for the Apple store. I’d like to see Apple open one of their signature stores (a la New York). Such a store would bring instant cool factor to the neighborhood and become, I believe, a catalyst for all other kinds of retail.
Sweet! Thanks for adding it… looks like a hit already! If only the folks at Apple were reading this blog.
Please NOT a Chick-fil-a. I grew up in NC and love their waffle fries but talk about a way to bring more rif raff into the neighborhood…
I saw two teens get thrown into the back seat of a police car on Friday night during my nightly walk through the neighborhood — it was outside McDonalds of course. Anything but another place for them to congregate.
It would be great to have a place for breakfast similar to CIRCA in Dupont or BREAD AND CHOCOLATE. I know that we had a Marvelous Market, but if it were more like the one in Eastern Market, it may have done better.
We bought a condo in City Vista and have been told that the people who own Busboys & Poets will be operating an additional location in the building’s ground level retail. No word yet whether it will go by the same name or a new one.
It’s good to see that most people who read this blog are sensible and see a grocery store as our biggest need. The 5th & K Safeway is not in my neighborhood any more than Whole Foods or Giant are in my neighborhood.
I agree. That’s in Mt. Vernon Square or Shaw, but not in Penn Quarter. And while it may be next to our neighborhood, it’s not going to be the resource that downtown residents, office workers, and tourists could definitely use.
I’m not in PQ, but I’m glad to see grocery store beating out Apple Store. Where would you all like the grocery store to go? Are there any current spaces for a full service grocery store or would it have to be a part of a new development (like old convention center)? Just curious. Maybe “east chinatown,” like on 5th or 6th street…
I can’t believe there is any support for an Apple store. I put it in the same category as a banks and cell phone stores–wasted space. The 5th & K Safeway is not the PQ neighborhood and it’s too far to walk back with numerous bags of groceries. WE NEED A GROCERY STORE!
Apparently, we may be getting a W Hotel! Looks like the W Hotel is in negotiations to take over the Hotel Washington. Now that will be a nice rooftop lounge.

No option for an Apple Store?! lol
