Old Man Winter Is No Friend Of Ours
Don’t mistake the title of this post as a complaint about snow, we love snow. Ice, however, we hate.
Snapping photos around 8:30 am Tuesday morning (the aftermath of the fire*) the sidewalks were covered with snow as more came pouring from the sky. For a brief moment we allowed ourselves to believe it would continue to dump all day, daydreaming of early release from the office and playing on the Mall in the snow. Unfortunately as quickly as it fell, it seems the snow was being cleared by the various people whose job it is to make sure none of us slip/fall/sue.
By 2 pm the snow had stopped, and you wouldn’t even know it had fallen if not for the tree boxes (and that snow seems to come down yellow). Insult to injury of course is that when the precipitation began again around 6 pm on Tuesday night, it was coming down in the form of ice. By the time you’re reading this on Wednesday morning even more ice is predicted to have come down. Ice is nobody’s friend.
We hope this isn’t the only snowstorm we get this winter, but if it is we’re happy we were able to spend a little time in a snow covered Penn Quarter.
* DCFD.com reports that 5 firefighters received injuries described as non-life threatening; we wish them a speedy recovery.

I walk by the new & old waffle shops on a daily basis. I seem to be the only one that feels this way, but I love the new waffle shop location (Lincoln House Rest.). Sure it doesn’t look as funky on the outside, but overall it’s cleaner (comparatively), the food is just as good, and it’s the same staff that was at the old WS.
But to your question monkeyrotica, the boarded up old WS appears to have work going on inside (ladders, buckets, etc. can be seen inside) but no word on when the big move to a completely new location will happen.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Damn. I miss the old Waffle Shop. What’s the status of the re-build/move, or is that on indefinite hiatus? I imagine the credit market is pretty tight for old Jemal nowdays.
