The National Restaurant Coming To Trump Hotel (1100 Penn Ave NW)
The National by Geoffrey Zakarian will be one of the two restaurants opening in mid-2016 in the Trump Hotel at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue. The liquor license posted at the construction site above provides the evidence; a request formally entered on this evening’ s ANC2C meeting agenda for consideration confirms it. It will be in the northwest corner of the building at ground level according to this rendering posted by DC Eater.
Geoffrey Zakarian also helms The National restaurant in midtown New York City. The menu at The National offers classic bistro dishes with Zakarian’s signature Modern American touch; the New York menus can be found here.

Our City Festival Happening In Penn Quarter This Weekend
The Our City Festival runs June 5 to 7 and is a weekend-long event in downtown DC showcasing films, music, art and literature by, for and about Washingtonians. The festival is put on in partnership with the DC Public Library and Kendra Rubenfield Public Relations. The weekend will consist of a film festival along with four separate showcases curated and performed by local musicians, writers and artists. We looked at the schedule and saw events both at the MLK Public Library (9th and G St NW) and the Goethe-Institut (812 7th St NW).
The event is backed by an advisory committee including local luminaries as George Pelecanos (The Wire), Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Esther Kim (Fantom Comics), Grammy-nominated rapper, Chistylez Bacon and restauranteur, Paul Ruppert.
Pennsylvania 6 Restaurant Announces Presence In Downtown DC
Pennsylvania 6, a new restaurant featuring contemporary American cuisine, is coming to 1350 I Street NW on McPherson Square. If the DC incarnation of the restaurant follows the menus from restaurants open in Philadelphia and New York, Pennsylvania 6’s offerings will include a raw bar, a neatly assembled menu of American dishes, a basic wine list, a more extensive beer list, and craft cocktails. Readers can click on the liquor license posting photo in the photo gallery below (lower right) which shows that a sidewalk cafe is a part of the application – this will activate that side of the street with outdoor life.
We’ll keep you posted on when the restaurant opens up – the website indicates ‘Summer 2015’ as an opening timeframe which could mean anything from next week to late August.
