Jetties sandwich shop let us know that their grand opening is not this weekend on April 4 but is now scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 Thursday, April 16. They will open in the former 1791 Deli space on 8th St NW between G and H Streets NW.
8th Street Deli Vacated
While on our morning doggie walk today, we noticed that the 8th Street Deli (717 D St., NW) has been vacated. Permit postings note the space is undergoing renovation, but it’s not clear if the deli will return or if the space is on the market. Any PQers have an update for us?
Cherry Blossom Festival Kicking Into High Gear
The Cherry Blossom Festival officially runs March 20 through April 12 but this week marks the kick off of the bulk of activities. The official Cherry Blossom Festival website lists events but we also like the guide produced by the Washington Post which offers up a nice map and pick of events. Peak bloom is predicted to be between April 11 and April 14 which spans the weekend after next. We always enjoy the official parade along Constitution Ave which this year takes place on April 11.
Our experience is that the best time to view the blossoms without crowds is during the week around lunchtime so we usually walk down to the Tidal Basin for a long lunch to take in the view. The weekends bring maddening crowds but if that’s the only time you can get away, it’s usually easier to use public transportation and/or walk rather than driving.
Penn Quarter FRESHFARM Farmer’s Market Kicks Off Next Thursday, April 2 At 3 PM
It’s hard to believe folks but spring is here and that means it’s time for the FRESHFARM Farmer’s Markets to fire up in neighborhoods around DC. This includes our very own Penn Quarter where the market sets up on Thursday evenings from 3 pm to 7 pm on 8th St NW between D and E Streets.
CSA (Community Support Agriculture) subscriptions will be available at the Penn Quarter (and CityCenter) market.
