How To Patronize Local Downtown DC Businesses During This Time
A lot has changed since our last post. In the span of a month the U.S. economy in certain sectors has come to a standstill while other folks work from home if they are able. And that’s the catch. Our neighborhood has become very quiet since restaurants, coffee shops, and the Capital One Arena all contribute a large part of the energy to the area. They are all in stasis currently.
Some businesses remain open and the Downtown DC BID assembled a list we are linking to below. Patronize your local businesses as much as you can and feel comfortable doing. We are certainly doing our part by patronizing at least one local business per day.

Cedar Restaurant Expansion On E St NW (822 E St NW)
One of our favorite Penn Quarter restaurants, Cedar (822 E St NW), is expanding into the former Bank of Georgetown space at ground level fronting E and 8th Streets NW. Labelled ‘Streetside’, the new dining area has a bar and a number of tables in the space, and we’re happy to see this expansion which will give Cedar a street level presence that can better draw in passers by. Of note, Cedar has both a regular menu and a vegan menu and the restaurant is open for dinner weekdays, brunch/dinner on Saturday, and brunch only on Sunday. We’ll offer another update once Cedar’s Streetside opens.

We were walking home from work and saw lots of police tape closing off 8th Street, H Street, and 10th Street NW yesterday afternoon. We soon learned that a man was fatally shot and the suspect apprehended by the police. This is a very rare occurrence in our neighborhood. (Note that the tweet headline mistook 8th Street to be H Street. The initial incident took place on 8th Street NW.) The MPD briefing from Chief Newsham is above and the Washington Post article summarizing events is below.
