Move ins begin in November 2013 and amenities include a pool, two story fitness facility, and SkyBark (a “lively” rooftop dog walking area). Restaurants
Penn Quarter – We get an update for the Red Apron Butchery and the 709 D Street NW location in the former Union Hardware building it is now slated to open in November. Their endeavor will be mostly restaurant and part retail butchery. The name of the outlet will be “Parts and Labor” which seems appropriate given that the AAM (American Association of Manufacturing) occupies another floor in the same building. Ed Witt will be the chef at the new location. [WaPo]
Downtown – The J&G Steakhouse in the W Hotel (515 15th St NW) gets a revamp both upstairs in the restaurant and downstairs in the wine bar which is now called Bar 515, a favorite of ours for a cozy date night. [Eater DC (photos)] and [J&G Steakhouse website (menus)]
Chinatown – Industry Takeover Night takes place tonight at Graffiato (707 6th St NW) with Autism Speaks being the benefiting charity. [Graffiato website]

Let’s Go Caps!
The Caps were off to a rough start, and not just because of the 3 point deficit they had playing against Calgary in the 1st period. At 10 minutes till 7 last night (game time) the lines to get into the Caps home opener at the Verizon Center (601 F ST NW) were dozens deep. Security guards were wanding each person who entered, leading to a big delay in getting into the game.
By the middle of the first period the area looked at capacity, but many of the people around us wondered why they’d bothered to show up in the first place, since the Caps players obviously hadn’t. By the end of the first period Holtby was gone, and some in the crowd were considering taking off themselves.
If you’ve read the paper this morning, or stuck it out last night, you know the next two periods, overtime, and a shootout told a much better (for the Caps, anyway) story. Back up net-minder Neuvirth only gave up one more goal for the rest of the game, and rookie defenseman Connor Carrick scored the first goal of his career (and the first for the caps that night). Throw in a pair of goals by Ovechkin, and the tying goal from Backstrom, and enough after the whistle activity to satisfy any fan of the more pugilistic side of the game and, well you have a heck of an entertaining night in PQ.
