Our Shoe Guy Is Moving
And if you live or work in PQ, it is possible that your shoe guy is moving too. G Street Shoe & Luggage repair (1204 G Street NW) is moving and changing names this weekend. As of Christmas Eve Monday (12/24) it will be called 12th & I Street Cleaners and Shoe Repair, located at 1201 NY Ave NW (around the corner from Bobby Van’s).
We’ve been taking our shoes to this place forever, and have always been satisfied. Good shoes are not cheap, and unfortunately they are rarely wearable right out of the store. You have to take them to a shoe person who knows what he’s doing, adding grips and taps, winterizing and polishing. This guy knows his stuff when it comes to making your shoes last. Maintenance on shoes isn’t cheap either, but when you find the perfect pair of shoes (and then never find them for sale again) you want to make them last.
We’ve never taken advantage of his dry cleaning business or luggage repair (it’s hard to compete with dry cleaners who pickup and deliver to our condo) so we can’t speak to his qualities there. But if you need a shoe guy, we can recommend this one without reservation.
On a side note, this is the second closing along this block. Anyone heard any rumors about the 1200 block of G street?
