Pop Up?
One of the current food trends is the pop-up restaurant, a limited time only taste of an established or up and coming chef.
Here are just a few on my foodie radar:
- Through September: Garden Café Catalonia by Jose Andres at the National Gallery of Art (4th and Constitution Avenue NW)
- June 12-14: Pop Up Paladar at Cuba Libre (801 9th Street NW) with Chef Alain (Doctor Café in Havana, Cuba)
- June 9: Living Social has been hosting lots of pop up restaurants and foodie feasts at their 918 F Street NW location, including this one.

Capitol Hemp (519 H St NW) Shutting Down August 1
We reported back in the spring of 2010 about Capitol Hemp’s opening a store at 519 H St NW in the basement retail area of one of the rowhouses on H St NW. This was their second location in DC and both the Chinatown and Adams Morgan locations will close August 1. A fall 2011 raid of the store was the beginning of a process that lead to a Deferred Prosecution Agreement whereby the store announced that both the Chinatown and Adams Morgan stores will be closing. Recent tweets this week continue to mete out that the brand and assets are available for sale.
Go for a Spin
A bunch of my friends have been obsessive devotees of spinning classes like those in the offing from The Art of Spyn, driving out to Virginia or Metro-ing over to the Hill for their cycling classes. A few days ago, I learned that The Art of Spyn (TAS) will be opening a new studio right here in Penn Quarter (currently planned for August) at 950 F Street, NW. Be sure to check out their opening specials, $40 for one month of unlimited yoga classes or $60 for one month of unlimited cycling and yoga classes.
Happy spinning and down dogging!
