We haven’t done Heard In The ‘Hood in a while so here’s what we were noodling over recently about neighborhood news in DC. Have something to add? Leave it in the comments!
Chinatown – Pho DC on H Street opens their downstairs deli to sell steamed buns and bubble tea. Mmm…steamed buns! [Prince of Petworth]
Mount Vernon Triangle – The Sixth Engine in the 400 block of Mass Ave now has their patio open for outside dining. More yum! [The Triangle]
Downtown – The New York Times laments the turning of the old 9:30 Club into…gasp…a J. Crew store (this is the one going in on F St NW). Oh, the irony of it all! [New York Times]
Penn Quarter – The Protein Bar must now officially be moving into the neighborhood at 7th and D St NW. They posted the news on their blog! They are also targeting Ballston in Virginia and have launched a DC store Twitter feed. [Protein Bar Chicago – blog] & [Protein Bar DC Twitter]
Georgetown – For all you native Washingtonians who used to hit G’town in the 80s, Poseurs nightclub which was at the corner of M and 34th St NW is having a reunion on August 4 at the Rock & Roll Hotel on H St NE. DJ Mohawk Adam who spun tunes for over two decades at area clubs is on the bill. [WTOP]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Will the beach bar concept work on an empty lot in the 600 block of New York Ave? Will MTV come out with a show called DC Shore featuring twenty-somethings living in a nearby Mount Vernon Triangle condo who hang out at the beach? I think we have a situation here. [Prince of Petworth] & [WaPo]
Downtown – Lots of kurfuffle over the motivation behind Douglas Development’s raze permit request for the billboard…we mean historic building at 11th and K St NW. [The Location] & [Washington CityPaper]
Penn Quarter – Leica officially opens their Washington DC store and first stand alone retail store in the U.S. at 977 F St NW. First mentioned on Penn Quarter Living in September 2011, we dropped by to check it out and it is very cool. [WaPo] & [Washington Business Journals] & [Huffington Post] & [Urban Daddy]
City Hall – Gun registration in D.C. may get a little easier. [DCist]
Penn Quarter – Speculative (or hopeful) thoughts from Douglas Development about what may go into 915 F St NW. We think it would make for an interesting restaurant with grand effect, but that’s just us. [Greater Greater Washington]

The Local Vine Cellar (425 11th St NW) Getting Ready To Open
We stopped by The Local Vine Cellar on 11th St NW to check on progress toward opening this wine and spirits shop and sure enough they are getting ready to open. A quick exchange through the window with one of the people prepping the store inside and a check of the sign posted on the front door informed us that they plan to open later this week.
