Jobs In Penn Quarter
We’ve seen a number of “Help Wanted” signs show up on storefront windows over the last few months and have taken that to mean that the downtown retail economy is in pretty good shape. A quick perusal of the Craigslist jobs section using the search term “Penn Quarter” kicked out 64 listings many of which are for the familiar restaurants and food outlets in our neighborhood such as PS7, Austin Grill, and The Source. If you need a job in Penn Quarter, it looks like there is one waiting!
Footloose
This week, the Kennedy Center is sponsoring Look Both Ways: Street Arts Across America with events around the city and at the Kennedy Center.
Be sure to check out the acts slated for Friday, May 11, starting at 8pm at the Old Post Office Pavilion (1100 Pennsylvania Ave., NW). Of particular interest to me, Bandaloop’s Bound(less), a vertical dance performance where artists will be suspended in air and interact with the walls of the building.
Leica Camera Store Officially Open (977 F St NW) *pics*

Leica Camera officially opened their first stand alone U.S. retail store last week at 977 F St NW last week filling in the last unclaimed bay in the Carroll Square development at the corner of 9th and F St NW. The store is about 2000 square feet in size and includes two separate spaces, one where the iconic cameras, binoculars, and lenses can be purchased, and another where photos can be exhibited in a gallery space. The gallery side of the store will rotate through about four exhibits per year.
Leicas are beautifully crafted cameras emanating from Germany. In our college days when our SLR cameras clattered away, we knew that somewhere there was a Leica quietly and discreetly capturing a moment due to its rangefinder form factor and lack of mirror banging around. Leica makes a range of cameras from the compact D-Lux 4 and D-Lux 5 to the M-9 rangefinder with fully interchangeable lenses. You can still buy 35 mm film cameras from Leica and they still sell an all mechanical camera, the MP, that requires no batteries to operate. The interchangeable lens system includes the standard focal lengths such as 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, and 135 mm. Also in the lineup is an amazingly fast 50 mm lens with a maximum aperture of f 0.95.
The store is open Monday to Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. Thursday and Friday it’s open 11 am to 7 pm. Private appointments are available 10 am to 11 am each weekday.

District Taco Declares Restaurant Completion (1309 F St NW)
Photo from District Taco’s Twitter stream
The folks at District Taco tweeted this morning that the restaurant build-out is complete. A now hiring sign sits in the window as well as signs that breakfast tacos may become part of Penn Quarter residents’ regular breakfast meal rotation. An opening day has yet to be announced, but we’re guessing any day now.
