Reader Photo: E Street Montage
We always enjoy putting up fun reader photos. In this case, PQ Living reader Nancy contributes an Instagram depicting a visual montage of a number of elements visible from E Street including Luke’s Lobster, Meatballs, the Clara Barton condo, a little bit of Starbucks, and a banner for the Woolly Mammoth Theatre’s current show (Civilization (All You Can Eat)) that opens today.
Reader photos for posting consideration can always be sent to pqliving [at] gmail[dot]com. For those so inclined, our Flickr tag is pqliving. Thanks Nancy!
Sixth Engine To Open Tonight (438 Mass Ave NW)
Ed. Note (Feb 11): Per this post, Sixth Engine will be closed Sunday, Feb 12 and Monday, Feb 13 and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb 14.
Thrillist DC has a nice write-up on Sixth Engine today, a new tavern built inside of the historic fire station at 438 Massachusetts Ave NW. Our friends at MVT blog also provided a sneak peek inside a couple of days ago with more details. It looks great and is opening tonight!
PQ Soon To Be Maxxinista Destination
Reader Jon Gann of The Mather & DC Shorts sent us this photo from a window on F Street between 12th & 13th in one of the old Ritz Camera locations (we think this was 601 13th St NW).
Retailer T.J.Maxx will be taking over the space, which we’re thinking must include a large subterranean space as well. We can’t imagine a T.J.Maxx space as small as any of the old Ritz Camera shops, but assuming there is basement access this might help fill the void left by the closing of Filene’s Basement.
Protein Bar Coming To Penn Quarter (701 Pennsylvania Ave NW)

A construction permit sign is now up for a new retail outlet in Penn Quarter called Protein Bar in the former location of the flower shop fronting 7th Street NW near the corner of D Street. This space is in the Market Square North (701 Pennsylvania Ave NW) building. We’ve reached out to the Protein Bar in Chicago to see if they are expanding to DC and checked out their menu too. This could be yet another food option for all us PQers! Thanks goes to PQ Living tipster Barry (great gumshoeing, Barry!) and we’ll keep you posted.
