A Very Merry PQ Christmas
Merry Christmas Penn Quarter! Forget the malls and deck your hall with wines, wears, and whatnots from the streets of PQ. You can build your own gift basket just like the Columbos with goods from all over Penn Quarter. Our basket has some of our favorites from the neighborhood including:
- A little something sexy and fun from Coup de Foudre
- Bottle of Pol Roger Champagne from Central Liquor (they tell us this was served at the Royal Wedding, we haven’t looked it up because we want to believe this is true)
- Bottle of Argyle sparkling wine from Zola Wine & Kitchen
- Visconti fountain pen from Fahrney’s Pens (perfect for writing thank you notes)
- Biscotti from Pitango Gelato (Santa asked us to leave these out instead of the usual cookies)
- Pate and cheese from Cowgirl Creamery
- Gift certificate for a post-holiday massage from Bliss Spa
- Almond body oil from L’Occitane (no winter-dry skin in the Columbo house)
- Dark hot chocolate on a stick from Le Pain Quotidien (this is the bakery we’ve been waiting for)
- And flying above the basket, a remote controlled helicopter from Bed Bath & Beyond (our poor dog)
Downtown Macy’s Holiday Windows
We’ve been doing last minute shopping in our favorite destination, downtown DC, and took note of the holiday windows at Macy’s (G Street between 11th and 12th St NW). Every year the window displays change and while not comparing in complexity or scale to the Bergdorf Goodman displays in New York City, we do enjoy the festive atmosphere they bring to downtown. Happy Holidays everyone!
PQ Holiday Shopping 3
With the holidays upon us, here are a few final gift ideas from neighborhood shops, this time for fellow Urban Dwellers.
Build your own bike at Urban Outfitters (737 7th St, NW)
Comedy show tickets – Eddie Griffin at Riot Act (801 E St, NW) or Chicago’s Second City at Woolly Mammoth (641 D St, NW)
A monogrammed mug from Anthropologie (950 F St, NW)
Specialty tea and these convenient and stylish bento boxes from Teaism (400 8th St, NW)
An alpaca throw blanket to keep warm during these cold Winter nights from Peruvian Collection (950 F St, NW)
Eating with Uncle Sam, a cookbook available at the National Archives Gift Shop that commemorates the exhibit What’s Cooking, Uncle Sam? and includes a foreword by neighborhood favorite, Jose Andres (800 Constitution Ave, NW) .
Townhouse Restaurant & Wine Bar Coming In 2012 (700 6th St NW)
Wine bar anybody? The outside DC restaurant invasion continues but this time it comes from The Second City (Chicago) and not from The City (New York City). We learned that Restaurants America signed a ten year deal to fill the ground floor of the Cadawalader building, aka 700 6th St NW, with the Townhouse Restaurant & Wine Bar. Restaurants America has many of its eatery concepts up and running in the Chicago area.
A quick PQ Living search shows that we’ve been watching this site since July of 2007 with an update in November 2008 and the advertising of the retail space in April 2010. It took eighteen months to sign the retail space from opening to announcement. What was it before the lot was leveled? We remember dancing the night away at Club Element and Club Insomnia in the old Bergmann’s Laundry building, and so does the Washington Post.
How big? 6,710 square feet. When? Spring 2012. Red or white? Definitely red.
