Happy Columbus Day
We at PQ Living are taking the day off in celebration of the Columbus Day holiday. We will return tomorrow with Heard In The ‘Hood, our DC Link Roundup.
Anthropologie Opens In Penn Quarter!
Following up from our tweet yesterday, Anthropologie officially opened this morning in Penn Quarter, Washington DC. The address is 950 F St NW and initial store hours are Mon-Thurs 10am-8pm, Fri-Sat 10am-9pm and Sun 12pm-6pm. We suspect that store hours will be extended an additional hour once store managers get a feel for the local market. Neighboring clothing stores all have later hours.
We can’t imagine a better time to open an Anthropologie than on a sunny Friday before the holiday weekend. Happy shopping!
Back To The Future
We’ve watched these last few weeks as workers have been painstakingly cleaning, priming, and then painting the decorative facade of the G street side of the Woodies Building. But today the painters seemed to kicked it in high gear as they made the once drab exterior come alive in vivid color. The 1000 block of G street has never looked so good.
Or has it? Is this work restoring the old Woodies Building to it’s former, original glory? Our cursory research didn’t turn up any color photos of the exterior from the buildings heyday. Does anyone know if this current restoration is mimicing the original scheme?
Seasonal Pantry
Has anyone been to Seasonal Pantry (1314 ½ 9th Street, NW)? I was driving by there the other night on my way home. It looked so cozy and inviting on such a dreary night. According to the web site, they offer a selection of housemade pantry items (e.g. spice blends, pastas, soups and sauces), charcuterie and an in-house butcher. On weekends, they run a Supper Club with private dinners for up to twelve people and menus inspired by the best of the season. Tickets for their dinner on October 20 become available tomorrow, October 6. I don’t know if I’m brave enough, but they are also offering a Scary Parts dinner around Halloween.
They also have two very interesting classes coming up:
Monday, October 10 at 6:00 pm – Baking with Frenchie’s. Erica Skolnik, the house baker at Seasonal Pantry and owner of Frenchie’s-Handmade Pastries & Desserts will discuss all things chocolate, including the different varieties of cacao beans, tips for baking, and of course a chocolate tasting. $35 per person
Monday, October 17at 7pm – America vs Europe: Cheese Battle 2011. October has been declared “American Cheese Month” by the American Cheese Society, and what better way to honor the 1st annual celebration than by pitting American cheeses versus European! We’ll talk about and taste the difference between new world and old world cheeses, and – like the famous 1976 Tasting in Paris – decide once and for all who gets bragging rights. $40 per person.
