Tony Rome Out And About (For About A Week)
We always enjoy reviewing the goods at Weschler’s weekly auctions, but what we really love are their periodic seasonal offerings. We’ve written before about the unique (and sometimes well priced) jewelry you can get, but our favorite by far is the Fine Art & 20th Century Decorative Arts auction. Both the jewelry and arts auctions are right around the corner on Saturday, September 17th, and we see that once again the items available are outstanding.
In the past we’ve mostly bid on works by Gene Davis but never been able to beat out our competition. This time the Gene Davis isn’t calling our names, but while perusing the rest of the catalog we discovered this big guy:
5 feet long by 4 feet high, this sucker was painted by none other than Tony Rome himself, Mr. Frank Sinatra. Expected to fetch between 6 to 8 thousand dollars, this is possibly the coolest damn thing we’ve ever seen. There is a part of us that can almost justify the cost, going through the calculations of exactly how many vacations we’d have to skip, how many PB&Js we’d have to consumer, in order to claim this work as our own (how much is plasma going for these days?).
But like the many works by Davis that have slipped through our fingers, we suspect this one will go to one of our more well-heeled competitors, we just hope it stays in PQ.

Arts On Foot…Fun For All
We visited Arts on Foot, one of our favorite annual Penn Quarter events, yesterday on F Street NW between 6th and 9th Streets and took in all it has to offer including the food, the wine, the crafts, and the performances. The weather was fantastic, the people were friendly, and the food was tasty. Today, the last day, the festival runs from 11 am to 6 pm. A few photos follow…the forecast says it may rain later so you may want to get in your visit sooner rather than later.
Arts On Foot Is This Weekend! *pic*

Arts on Foot will be held this Saturday and Sunday on F St between 7th and 9th streets NW.
