A Chinatown resident was killed on Saturday, February 3 inside an apartment building in the 400 block of H Street NW. All the major news outlets covered the story but what brought it to our attention is a tweet from the the DC Homicide Info Twitter account which can be found @DCHomicideCount.
The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in locating Jose Luzunaris aka “Panama”. Luzunaris, pictured below, is currently wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder While Armed in the fatal stabbing of Mr. Gregory Monroe. He is described as a 52-year-old black male, 5’5” tall, 140 pounds, with a medium complexion. Luzunaris should be considered armed and dangerous.

Capital One Arena To Be Modernized This Fall (601 F St NW)
The Washington Post reports that the Capital One Arena will be modernized this fall with a $40 million renovation project that includes:
- 100 and 400 level concourses will receive a makeover
- Team store will be updated and stay open year round
- Two lounges will be added for premium ticket-holders
- Concession stands will be revamped to include concepts from celebrity chefs
- New digital displays will be added throughout the concourses
- Monumental360 program will be further developed to deliver a more personalized fan experience
With these investments and the recent 10 year naming rights deal going to Capital One it seems that Washington’s basketball and hockey teams will stay put for now.

Live Music Every Wednesday Evening At Bakers And Baristas (501 7th St NW)
We lament that there isn’t more live music in our immediate neighborhood so we find every opportunity we can to let readers know when live music does appear. Bakers and Baristas (501 7th St NW) is at the corner of 7th and E St NW and they have live music mostly in the jazz genre every Wednesday. The poster above appears in their front door showing the February schedule as follows:

- February 14 – Audrey Shakir
- February 21 – Imani Grace-Cooper
- February 28 – Sitali Siyolwe
There is no admission fee although a $10 donation is suggested/requested.
Restaurant Week Ends Sunday, January 28…Penn Quarter Restaurants Participating
From the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association, we received a list of Penn Quarter member restaurants participating in the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington’s Winter Restaurant Week. The general rule is that brunch, lunch, and dinner include three course with dinner coming in at $35 and brunch/lunch at $22. Some restaurants extend the menus after January 28 on a case by case basis.
