Best Thai Curry In PQ
Green curry chicken is a staple of many area Asian restaurants, and it’s a good dish by which to judge them. If they can’t make a good curry, you probably won’t like anything else they cook. When you think about places to get green curry, restaurants like Absolute Thai, Asia Nine, or Haad Thai might come to mind. You’re probably not thinking of a French restaurant for your curry fix, but that’s just what we’re recommending today. In our opinion Bistro D’OC has the best green curry chicken in the neighborhood, albeit the most expensive as well.
On the menu it’s called Fricassee De Poulet Thai and comes in at a whopping $18.50; this is not your typical green curry chicken. Or rather, it is the same basic ingredients but they come together for a taste & texture that is significantly better than that offered by other area restaurants. Is it the free range chicken? More butter? Overall higher quality of ingredients? We don’t know what they do to make it taste so much better, we just know our taste buds agree.
In talking with the sons of the owner of Bistro D’OC, it sounds as if the family has spent a lot of time traveling in Thailand. While there may be a Thai influence over a few dishes on the menu, none compares with that green curry chicken. The Bistro D’OC curry is definitely not as spicy-hot as at its Asian counterparts around town; we assume though that you can request it hotter (or more mild).
So there you have it, the Palme d’Or for the best green curry chicken in Penn Quarter goes to Bistro D’OC. We assume you’ll now want to shower us with you agreement & praise in the comments section. On the off chance you disagree with our decision, you can throw your two cents in too.
Editor’s Note: We’re renaming our “Best In Town” series (which hasn’t seen an update in over a year) to “Best in PQ,” because that’s what we’ve always meant by “in town.” Now seemed like as good a time as any to clear up any confusion. The earlier entries in this series are available here, here, and here.

Crumbs To Open In 1 Week, Free Cupcakes To Follow
Crumbs, the new bakery to grace 604 11th St NW, is reported (WaBizJo, et al) to be opening on Nov 13th. They will also host a 1,000 cupcake giveaway on Nov 19th to celebrate their opening.
But, if you head over the the official Crumbs facebook page, the official word (as of Thurs, 11/4) is that they’ll open by the end of the year and that facebook fans will be the first to know the opening date. Judging from the newly un-papered store windows, we’re inclined to believe the multiple reports of a Nov 13th opening date.
Send In The Car
There isn’t much to say about this one – it was just the first time we’d ever seen an armored car roll right up onto the huge, plaza-like sidewalk in front of the Bank of America at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW. We don’t begrudge the drivers doing whatever it takes to stay safe, and they maneuvered the truck like they’ve done this a thousand times before.
Still we’re certainly not going to pass up an opportunity to snap a fun photo and (perhaps more importantly) to quote Die Hard.
