Z Pizza Coming To PQ! (806 H St NW)
Many know 806 H St NW as the vacant retail space next to the Five Guys on H St between 8th & 9th Street. According to the permit posted on the door, the former Blimpie Subs & Salads space will become Washington DC’s first Z Pizza location. Z Pizza has locations across the country with the nearest one residing in Arlington.
Will Z Pizza give Matchbox or Ella’s a run for their money?
PQ Gets Some Cat Power
Many may have noticed several ends of pedestrian cross walks have been redone on H & 8th St NW to include traction control strips and the pinkish raised bumps to aid the blind. Of course, the temptation of scribing on freshly poured concrete increases with these heavily trafficked sidewalks. And, the concrete barons did not disappoint when the sun went down and the newly dried concrete revealed some choice words. When we first came upon this diatribe (bottom pic), we were secretly hoping for a nonsensical rambling to really get the creative juices flowing as we walked on it every morning on the way to work. Unfortunately, all we got was the first few lyrics to a Cat Power song. What a let down.
The 2nd unsigned scribing was more inspirational and passionate, judging by how much pressure must have been applied to convey the message: “Are you OK?”

Say It Ain’t So, Joe’s

The changes keep on coming at the corner of 10th & F streets NW. One Monday we noticed that longtime tourist shop Joe’s Souvenir Headquarters was closed, and the interior empty. We don’t know how long Joe’s has been in this location, but suspect it’s been a while. Joe’s has never been a focus for us, in fact only really featured on this blog back in early 2009 when a fire broke out on the second floor.
It would certainly be nice if such a marquee corner was less of an eyesore, but that block is such a tourist destination that these shops must be doing well. If you’re concerned about where to find your White House salt & pepper shakers, don’t worry; there are still 4 souvenier shops on the block.
