Boss Shepard’s Restaurant Closing On August 31 (513 13th St NW)
Eater DC reports that Boss Shepard’s, the restaurant aside the Warner Theatre at the corner of 13th and E St NW, is closing on August 31. The restaurant opened over in July of 2014. That space has been tough for any restaurant that’s made an attempt to sustain business there. Although there is an entrance from inside of the office building, the subterranean location is not easily visible to people walking on the street who might be looking for a place to eat.
Bluepoint (Seafood, Steaks, and Martinis) restaurant opened in the same space in 2007 and John Harvard’s Brewpub was the tenant before that.
News About The Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Ave NW)
The Washington Post reports that the Newseum’s president stepped down and that the organization is undergoing a financial review as the organization is not self-sustaining as of yet. This Washington Business Journal article indicates that selling the building is one possibility.
The building has a prominent location on Pennsylvania Avenue and includes both rental apartments and The Source by Wolfgang Puck restaurant. It’s certainly a beautiful building with an awesome roof deck but charging for admission in the $20 to $25 range stands out in a city full of free museums.
