Son Of Platinum Nightclub?
One of our most commented on running story lines of 2008 was the now closed Platinum nightclub at 915 F St NW and the adverse impact the club had on downtown life. Although that building has hosted a nightclub since the late 1980s, most recently as Platinum and then as Club Bounce, many weekends in 2008 until the club closed included a visit by the police and their accompanying blue and red squad car lights to quell some kind of disturbance. Fortunately for both the downtown business and residential community, the city shut down the club in late October 2008 and peace was restored.
Two PQ Living readers pointed us to a recent Craigslist advertisement soliciting part time employees to market/manage private events for a “newly established underground social networking club” to serve the “collegiate crowd” directing applicants to the back door (a rollup style garage door) of 915 F St. We haven’t seen any overt activity at the location and we certainly are not going to ding a good dance club that is a good neighbor such as the one next to Platinum. But, we cannot help but ask if this is the Son of Platinum returning to F Street?
DC Link Roundup: Heard In The ‘Hood
Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC.
Follow PQ Living via Facebook here and Twitter here.
Mount Vernon Triangle – The cranes (the construction apparatus…not the bird) are returning to restart the Yale Steal Laundry residential project. How did they get financing in this crummy real estate environment? It wasn’t Wall Street, it was the government…the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). [Renew Shaw]
Anacostia – East of the river gets a coffee house. Anyone checked it out yet? We’re planning a field trip soon. [And Now, Anacostia]
All Over DC – Three sommeliers get challenged on something other than wine. The contest included Jill Zimorski from the Penn Quarter’s Cafe Atlantico. [Washington Biz Journal: Top Shelf]
Georgetown – A detailed analysis is conducted of Georgetown’s retail establishments. A key finding? 69.53% of the stores are independents versus chains. [Georgetown Metropolitan]
Columbia Heights – We’ve wondered how the solar panels work in CH’s new main plaza. Now we know! [New Columbia Heights]
Penn Quarter – A nice mention of Penn Quarter Living on eating establishments. [Modern Luxury]
Reminder: Valentine’s Day Restaurant Reservations In PQ
One of the many luxuries that we PQ dwellers enjoy is to dine at a nice restaurant so close to home on a whim. Any day of the week we could figuratively (or literally) stumble into one of several neighborhood fine dining establishments for appetizers, drinks or just desserts. However, February 14 will not be one of those effortless hunts for palate stimulus.
A quick scan Penn Quarter restaurants on Opentable reveals that only 18 out of 24 PQ restaurants have availability within 2 hours of the prime 6:30pm dining time (with another 3 restaurants almost totally booked). So, consider yourself reminded!
