Cribs XXXI: Yeah We Got This Here Cool Penthouse For You
We always enjoy it when these 3 level plus penthouse roof deck units come on the market for our Cribs posts series so that we can see what owners have done, if anything, to change the stock finishes. In this case, Unit 1146 at 616 E St NW at the Clara Barton condominium is on the market for $1.15 million and we see quite a few updates to the bathrooms and most notably the kitchen.
The kitchen has been completely redone with new high end appliances, sink replacement/repositioning, a new countertop and new cabinets. It’s the best kitchen reno we’ve seen to date in the Clara Barton or Lafayette which together are the 400 plus units that are part of the Jefferson at Penn Quarter project. The building offers a plethora of amenities also including a rooftop pool, theater room, and numerous common spaces.
The condo fee comes in at $1,100 per month and the square footage is listed at 1,635 square feet. This works out to 67.3 cents per square foot per month which is in the middle of the range for Penn Quarter/downtown condo fees. At a $1.15M asking price the sales cost works out to $703 per square foot.
Yeah…it’s one cool penthouse!

DC Street Light Task Force request to have DDOT use healthier LED lights than now planned
DDOT will be converting current street lights to energy efficient LED lights. However, according to the Street Light Task Force, DDOT is converting to a potentially harmful LED light rather than one that is not harmful or not as harmful. The AMA has raised concerns about the blue light that these LEDs emit. To date, DDOT has only installed cool-white LEDs that have a strong blue-wavelength component and produce a harsh, bluish-white light. The American Medical Association has warned that blue-rich LED street lights cause hazardous glare and are potentially harmful to human health because of their disruptive effect on circadian sleep cycles. The AMA recommends that cities install warm-white LEDs that produce the “lowest emission of blue light possible.” The draft I received does not indicate what the Street Light Taks Force is requesting, if anything, of the ANC. Delores Bushlong, with the DC Street Light Task Force will present.DeloresBushlong@hotmail.comNext meeting:
