PQ Babies?

A loyal PQL reader, who is also expecting soon, wrote in to ask: “I was just wondering how many other new moms and babies there are in the neighborhood. ”
We don’t know where this post will lead, but to all of our PQ parents, feel free to leave a note/question/comment in the comments section. Maybe a new PQ parent could set up a google email group and post the link to it in the comments section?
Second Tier Tourist Attractions
DC has lots of famous tourist attractions: the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the much maligned carousel. Pick up any DC guidebook and you’ll find plenty of places where you’ll want to have your photo taken.
But there are other attractions we see tourists drawn to as well. Take the upside-down bike lane sign next to the FBI (on 9th Street NW between D & E). We see tourists having their photos taken with this sign almost every day of the week. You can imagine the comments that go along with photos as they’re being taken (“Our tax dollars at work”).
Tourists also seem infatuated with the Metro escalators. You can almost (but not quite) understand it if they’re taking photos of really deep stations, but the Archives/Navy Memorial station? That has to be one of the more shallow entrances on the Metrorail system. The escalators at their local JC Penney probably go deeper than the Archives entrance.
There must be other second tier attractions in the PQ. What mundane spots have you found tourists to be fascinated by?
Guardian Angels Patrol PQ On Saturdays
If you are subscribed to the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District (MPD 1D) yahoo email list, you may have been noticing patrol reports from our local Guardian Angels group. The group usually patrols the area of 7th Street NW between E and H Street on Saturdays (and sometimes Friday). It is interesting to read the reports because it tells a more down to earth story of what incidents are occurring in our neighborhood on the weekends.
Of course, there is no substitute for MPD officer patrols, but this blogger is thankful for the additional citizen patrols. The sheer number of people out and about on the weekend is surely taxing MPD resources. This is especially true now since the Special Operations Division (additional police that are on duty during Verizon Center events) will not be around much this summer due to the drought of Verizon Center events.
You can sign up for the MPD 1D email list over here. Click the “Join This Group” button.
