How Do You Know Congress Is Spending Your Money?
Simple. The lights below the Statue of Freedom in the Capitol dome are lit on a Friday night. The above photo from the top of a Penn Quarter building was submitted with a timestamp of 9:23 pm on Friday, February 13, the night Congress was debating the $787 billion stimulus package. President Obama is expected to sign the bill tomorrow in Denver.
If you want to see CNN’s video coverage of Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) arriving at 10:30 pm that night to cast the 60th vote, Wonkette has the scoop. For the economic oddsmakers out there, some say it could push the national deficit well over 10% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Speaking of photos, there is a ‘pqliving’ tag now available in flickr so if you want to tag your photos, we may choose one (or two or three) from the pqliving flickr pool to put on display as photo of the week (or month or quarter).
DC Link Roundup: Heard In The ‘Hood
Georgetown (everywhere in DC actually) – The Nextbus system (also known as the Bus Customer Information System in Metro presentations) providing riders a way to determine when the next bus will arrive at a given stop is running and is accessible via the Interent. This service will be very cool once it’s fully tested and vetted. [Georgetown Metropolitan]
Capitol Riverfront/Ballpark District – Diamond Teague park along the Anacostia River breaks ground. [Ballpark and Beyond/Near Southeast DC Redevelopment]
PQ/Downtown/Shaw – A number of restaurants in greater downtown make the James Beard Foundation Award Semifinals. [CityPaper – Young and Hungry]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Are drunk bums going upscale with their beverage choices? Will single sales exemption agreements torpedo the intended effect of a single sales moratorium? [The (Mount Vernon) Triangle]
Pardon The Interruption
Some of you may have noticed a few PQ Living service interruptions this weekend and two weekends ago resulting in rather blank screens when visiting PQ Living. We discovered a few server gremlins that we had to chase out of the system. Please pardon the interruption.
They Should Advertise Milk And Eggs Instead
Is the one hour photo a draw to anyone anymore? Maybe so. The convenience of one hour photo might be helpful when you’re out running numerous errands that can end with your picking up your prints. So assuming some people do still care about one hour photo, do any of them actually use CVS?
In some DC Neighborhoods CVS may be the best option, but in the PQ with both Penn Camera and Ritz Camera available for prints (places that specialize in photos) why would you choose CVS? We can’t remember the last time we saw the CVS camera cash register line being used for anything other than regular drugstore checkout.
But this is no rant against CVS. We like them for what they offer us: quick access to some food items, cold remedies, magazines, Rx, etc. We just can’t imagine using them for our photographic needs.
