Fighting The Crowds Worth It At Midwestern Ball

We were lucky enough to land tickets to one of the official inaugural balls. At the convention center we attended the Midwestern Regional ball. We’re still exhausted from the experience so this update will mostly be via photos, but we do want to mention it wasn’t miserable at all (as the conventional wisdom would have us believe).
Inauguration Parade: Obama Walks Pennsylvania Avenue
Some said he’d do it. Some said he wouldn’t. I don’t know if Vegas was taking odds but I was going with he’d get out of the limo and walk Pennsylvania Avenue NW. And he did. Twice. He didn’t wait until after the turn onto 15th Street. He got out right in front of Market Square at 8th Street NW, paired up with his wife and strolled in a poised and confident manner past an adoring crowd that sensed something was afoot the second the Presidential limo stopped and the door opened.
Inauguration Ceremony: The Perils Of Being Purple
Purple. That was the color of our reserved standing area tickets for the Inauguration Ceremony. Despite reading all the official instructions in the newspaper and in our ticket packets, the process of getting us onto the inaugural grounds fell into chaos. My little group made it inside while Joe Biden was being sworn in and we were able to watch Barack Obama’s swearing-in and speech as well as watch George Bush’s departure. In between, there were very good and very bad moments to be had. The good moments all came courtesy of our fellow attendees waiting in line with us – the purple purgatory.
Swearing-In Ceremony Over, Parade Up Next
We were fortunate enough to snap this pic of Executive One as it flew over the city on its way to Andrew’s AFB. Next up is the Inaugural Parade which is scheduled to start at 2:30pm on Penn Ave, but we think things are running a bit behind schedule.
