Photo Of The Week: Vapiano Still Coming To PQ (March 2009)
For all of those doubters out there, Vapiano (Italian restaurant) is still planning to open on H St NW. There was some concern that Vapiano would not be coming to the neighborhood after the restaurant’s logo came down from the facade and the buidling went under total rennovation.
Click on the image to see a larger version – you can see the restaurant logo is back up! Also, the front page of the Vapiano website says that the Chinatown location will open in March 2009.

Small Fire At Terrell Place Today (575 7th St NW)
We initially got a SMS text alert at about 12:30pm that there was a fire at the Terrell Place complex (575 7th St NW) this afternoon. After heading down to the building about an hour later, the fire looked to have been contained.
The DC Fire Department already has the explaination of what happened on their website (thanks DCFD!):
At 11:53 AM, Fire & EMS responded for what a report of a building on fire in Chinatown, in the 500 block of 7th Street, NW.
Firefighters found that the emergency was in the 10-story Terrell Building, which contains a number of commercial properties, including Rosa Mexicano restaurant and the new Crime and Punishment Museum. There were heavy smoke conditions on the ninth floor where contractors were using a torch and accidentally set some insulation on fire around an air conditioning motor.
The fire impacted an electrical room on the ninth floor, but firefighters were able to knock the fire down before what would have been a catastrophic electrical event occurred. Subsequently, the fire pump in the building ruptured resulting in flooding conditions in several rooms.
The department’s water services task force is working with WASA and the building’s management to resolve the problem.
7th Street Back To Normal?
It’s been almost two months since we wrote about hoards of teens congesting 7th Street, about eight weeks since the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) hosted its regular monthly meeting that included Mayor Fenty and senior city leaders and about six weeks since Mayor Fenty and the DC Government shut down Platinum/Bounce/Abdul Productions. Have the 7th Street teens “left the building”? We think so but we also think neighborhood eyes need to stay wide open.
