Getting Ready For The G-20 Financial Summit
Preparations are under way for tomorrow’s G-20 financial summit taking place at the National Building Museum (401 F Street NW) in the Penn Quarter. It all started on October 22 when President Bush announced he was inviting leaders from 20 nations to meet November 15 to discuss possible solutions to the global financial crisis along with the heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. President-elect Barack Obama was invited to attend but declined opting to have surrogates meet with country delegations on his behalf.
Will we get a fresh look at regulating and monitoring the global financial markets? We’ll have to wait the weekend to find out.
For a news/press release link round up and photos of exterior preparations, read past the break. Local road closures, parking restrictions and Metro closing are shown below.

ANC 6C Commissioner Docter Honored By BID
The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) held its Momentum Awards last Thursday announcing the best downtown has to offer. Most of the awards went to businesses or organizations but one award went to a person. Congratulations go out to Charles (Charley) Docter who serves as the Commish for ANC 6C09 and as a downtown resident has contributed more than his share to making our community a great place to live.
Way to go Charley and thanks for all that you do!
RIP: Tree & Treebox
Thanks go out to Mark for informing us that Penn Quarter has lost a tree. No big deal, right? We’ve lost trees before, but they have always been replaced (including the one in front of Potbelly).
Not this time. Mark also sent a pic of the treebox as it was being bricked over. Buried.
For a bit of perspective, the treebox in question housed a tree that looked a little worse for wear. But, more intriguing, the tree also interrupted certain views of the newly installed sculpture outside of the Reynold’s Center. Everyone enjoys a good conspiracy theory! See this view of the tree prior to removal (on the left side of the pic next to the blue tourist sign).
The last time we wrote about a lost tree, commenters seemed apathetic at best. After another year of downtown living under our belts, do we as a neighborhood feel a little more attachment to our trees? Or is this blogger just a bona fide tree hugger?
