Tomorrow’s DNA Meeting – Mayor Fenty, CM Evans & CM Wells
Tomorrow night’s monthly Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) meeting takes place at the Calvary Baptist Church (use the entrance at 733 8th Street, NW) at 6:30 pm with sandwiches and refreshments from our favorite urban Safeway.
It’s the second anniversary for the DNA and the guest speaker list includes the most senior city officials including Mayor Adrian Fenty (link to Mayor’s schedule), Ward 2 Councilman Evans and Ward 6 Councilman Wells. MPD PSA 101W will also send representatives. Wow! That adds up to a great opportunity to ask questions of city leaders about their views and plans for DC and our neighborhood.

Photo of the Week: Gallery Square (Gallery Tower) Demolition
Workers continue to demolish the interior of the old CVS building as well as the old seafood restaurant next door on the NE corner of 7th & H St NW. It’s still unclear what the development is called. The Riverdale International website calls it Gallery Square, but the more recent DCRA permit calls it Gallery Tower. It could be that the former Lei Garden and China Doll lots (where the office building is going) is called Gallery Square and the CVS & seafood restaurant buildings will be called Gallery Square. See this article for renderings of the development.
Elephant In The Neighborhood
We have an elephant in the neighborhood. Not the kind with floppy ears, a trunk and a wrinkled gray body. Our proverbial elephant is the groups of kids who like hanging out on 7th Street NW many weekend evenings, mostly between F and G Streets NW. The Examiner wrote up a story describing the neighborhood’s new pet and our sources tell us that WaPo is working a story too. A couple of things come to mind. One is what the kids are doing and two is why are they doing it…then there’s how to resolve the matter. Continue Reading >>
