There’s Something About An Aqua Velva Man?
At Penn Quarter Living, we’re not ashamed to say we enjoy a little pampering. We’re secure enough to pick up a salt scrub at L’Occitane, or even a spa treatment at PR at Partners. That’s why we were so excited to see that The Art of Shaving will be soon be opening in Union Station. Good shaving soaps & oils, badger brushes, even a fancy styptic pen for those times when your Mach 3 isn’t behaving (no man needs more than 3 blades).
But lest you think we take ourselves too seriously, we point to the above photo as proof that we still remember where we came from. Aqua Velva in the Spring & Summer, Old Spice in the Fall & Winter. And while you might soon see us leaving Union Station with too many shaving supplies, you wont see us with a five o’clock shadow.
Artists Back On F Street By Sept 5 (923 F St NW)
Another piece of the F Street streetscape puzzle will snap into place on September 5 when the artists displaced by the Carroll Square redevelopment officially return to studio space at 923 F St, NW, in the same block they occupied before most of that half of the block was knocked down and rebuilt. PQ Living last reported on the returning artists in March of 2008 – we circled the entrance in the photo above.
According to the press release, the artists group will be called F St | Arts and they’ll occupy the 2nd and 3rd floor studios in the preserved and rehabbed rowhouse portion of Carroll Square. These rowhouses date back to the 1880s and represent the historic preservation portion of Carroll Square. Paintings, photographs, sculpture, crafted jewelry, and wood furniture are some of the artwork that will be featured in the space with artists producing as well as displaying work.
F St | Arts will hold quarterly open studio events, in conjunction with the gallery located in the Carroll Square lobby, as well as other functions. Studios are open by appointment only in August with an announcement of public hours of operation coming in September.
Diversity breeds strength they say and we’re glad to have this artistic component of a mixed use block alive and back in place downtown. Check after the break for the complete rundown of who’s moving back in… Continue Reading >>
Metro Center Chop’t…There Is A Free Lunch (Tomorrow)
The Metro Center Chop’t will be opening sooner than we thought. Tomorrow, in fact, and they’ll be giving out free lunch salads from 11 am to 2 pm (or until the lettuce runs out) at their fourth location in DC at 618 12th Street, NW as a part of their pre-opening training day. They open for regular operations Tuesday, August 26 (meaning full hours and you’ll have to pay) and will be staffed weekend hours. We’ve often been told there is no free lunch but for a few hours tomorrow, that will not be the case. The news release is linked below.

DC MUD: BZA Approval for Armenian Museum (615 14th St NW)
From the good folks at DC Metro Urban Diary (MUD), we learned that the old Bank of Washington building we reported on at 14th and G Streets, NW, recently received Board of Zoning Adjustment approval for it’s renovation into the Armenian Genocide Museum of America. The whole building will be renovated, inside and out, and the opening date is now set for 2010.
