Penn Quarter Metered Parking Pricing App Released By DDOT
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced general availability of the parking app that indicates the real time cost of on-street metered parking in the Penn Quarter/Chinatown study area. The study area is framed by 3rd Street NW and 11th Street NW (east to west), and E Street NW and H Street NW (north to south).
The press release describing the apps’ release can be found here and a primer on the project can be found here. The pertinent functionality provided by the app as mentioned in the press release follows:
Developed by DDOT, parkDC provides parking availability and rate information for on-street parking in the zone. On-street availability is shown using green, orange and red lines, which indicate low, medium or high numbers of spaces. Hourly prices are provided for each block. The parkDC app also provides location, daily rates and hours of operation for parking garages.
The app is available for both Apple iPhones and Android devices. As always, do not use your app while you’re driving.
DC/Baltimore High Speed Maglev Train Open House Tonight At MLK Library (901 G St NW)
We learned of an open house this evening at the MLK Central Library (901 G St NW) between 5 pm and 7 pm where members of the public can ask questions about the high speed maglev train proposed to run between Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. Washington DC and Penn Quarter are a part of the study area. The train would take 15 minutes to travel between Washington and Baltimore and it would have a stop at BWI. The Maryland DOT was awarded $28 million to study the feasibility of the project.
From the website:
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the potential impacts of constructing and operating a high-speed superconducting magnetic levitation (SCMAGLEV) system proposed by the private company, Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail (BWRR), between Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Maryland, with an intermediate stop at BWI Airport.
The FRA and MDOT will hold a series of Open Houses on the SCMAGLEV project. You are invited to attend an Open House anytime between the hours listed. No formal presentation will be given. At the Open House you can:
• Meet the project team
• Learn about the project
• Provide comments on the scope of the EIS
• Share ideas and ask questions
Cribs XXIX: Floored On F St (912 F St NW – Unit 206 – The Ventana Condo)
We haven’t written a Cribs post profiling a home for sale in greater Penn Quarter in a while but this listing at The Ventana condo (912 F St NW) was too good not to mention. What we like most about this condo is that it is one of the most rowhouse like living experiences in Penn Quarter and in the photo above this unit comprises the top two floors. We’re talking about Unit 206 which is one of the 3 historic units at The Ventana (we looked at Unit 208, one of the other historic units, back in 2007).
Unit 206 clocks in at 2,000 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 2 parking spots, 1 walk-in closet, and 1 bay window. It is spread over two stories and its windows front F St NW and we really like the hardwood floors seen in the photos. The condo fee is $883/month which is a very reasonable 44 cents per square foot per month. The list price is $1.3 million which turns into $650 per square foot; the unit last sold for $1.09 million in May 2009. The MLS listing number is DC9797934.
