Apple And Events DC Agree On Carnegie Library For New Apple Store Location (801 K St NW)
Apple has come to an agreement with Events D.C. to open an Apple store in the Carnegie Library building in Mount Vernon Square within the boundary of the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association. Penn Quarter Living first reported on Apple’s search for a store in August of 2008 (!) and Apple later passed on the space at CityCenter when it had the chance but must have revisited its decision and decided not to pass this one up. Events D.C. runs the Carnegie Library and has been in discussion with Apple since at least late September when the news broke that this deal was simmering.
The Washington Business Journal has the exclusive and BisNow has a summary on this agreement.
Downtown (DC) Holiday Market In Full Swing Through Dec 23
The Downtown Holiday Market, the neighborhood’s annual seasonal market, is in full swing through December 23 on the north side of F Street NW between 7th and 9th Streets. Operating hours are 12 Noon to 8 pm each day and the market includes music performances, crafty vendors, and a few booths where patrons can grab a snack/drink; the full schedule is posted online. We’ve taken two passes through the market and scoped out our holiday buys as we usually pick up a few gifts for friends and family at the DHM. Enjoy!
Gene Davis Exhibit Is On At American Art Gallery (8th and G St NW)
We don’t want to spoil the goods by showing pictures of the exhibit itself but if you are a fan of Gene Davis and the Washington Color School, then the Davis exhibit currently running on the top floor of the American Art Museum (8th and G St NW) is certainly worth a visit. Even if you aren’t a fan, it’s worth seeing. Some of Davis’ works on display are mammoth in size and perhaps it’s that size that makes Davis’ point the best.
For those of you who were in the neighborhood at the time in 2007, we also remind you of the spring day that 8th Street between D and E Streets NW was striped becoming a life size homage to Davis. This photo is a gem as are these.
The exhibit runs through April 2, 2017.
