NGA Sculpture Garden Skating Rink Now Open For Season (9th St and Constitution Ave)

Winter must surely be approaching because our favorite ice skating rink, the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden ice rink, is now open for skating through March 12, 2017. We checked out the ice last night towards closing time for our initial skate of the season and it’s in good shape. Also nice was the sparseness of skaters but that won’t last long. Once Thanksgiving arrives and the holidays are on people’s minds, the rink becomes very popular. (The next nearest rink is the Canal Park Skating Rink which is also now open.)
Enter the facility from the corner of 9th St and Constitution Ave NW during the evening or 7th St and Constitution Ave NW during the day. Skate rentals and season passes are also available. The nearby Pavilion Café serves snacks, drinks, and most importantly hot chocolate allowing skaters to stay warm.

Friday – 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
Saturday – 11:00 am – 11:00 pm

Tesla Coming To CityCenter (9th and H St NW)
Tesla is opening up a showroom at the corner of 9th and H Streets NW in the southeasterly most corner of the retail shops at CityCenter. Their current showroom opened in late summer 2010 on 11th Street just below K Street (1050 K St NW). We surmise that they will be moving their whole operation to the new location as it might not make sense to keep renting two spaces so close to each other. The indicated opening date for the new showroom is Fall 2016.
New Restaurant 10 Tavern And Grill Coming To Old Redline Space (707 G St NW – 2nd Floor)
We learned about an upcoming restaurant plus bar opening at this week’s ANC meeting: 10 Tavern and Grill, a new restaurant concept by Phillips Seafood. They’ll occupy the 2nd floor of 707 G Street NW (where Redline was most recently). The restaurant will seat 130 guests and be open from 10 am to 2 am daily (inside) with a 25-seat sidewalk cafe outside with similar but more restricted hours, per the ANC’s usual request. We already see job postings listed so we know they’re gearing up for service.
Their hope is to open the first week of December, and they say they’ll have a “substantial menu with soups, salads, and burgers.” Their menu can be found here.

Foodie Radar: Bindaas

Every now and then there’s a need to leave the best neighborhood in the city. Bindaas (3309 Connecticut Ave. NW), the new Indian street food restaurant from PQ restaurateur Ashok Bajaj and James Beard award winning (Rasika) Chef Vikram Sundaram, is one of them.
Many of the classic, refined flavors you’ve come to love at Rasika have cameo roles. But, this small plates menu is much more playful, with memorable bursts of bright flavors and textures in a casual, but lively environment. Already on its way to being as hard to get into as its sister restaurant, be sure to hop on the Red Line soon to explore this delicious exploration of Indian cuisine.
