The AT&T store located at 785 7th St NW underneath the Gallery Place metro entrance opened late last week.
We’ll let the comments on this post speak for themselves. Is anyone thrilled that a prime piece of Gallery Place real estate has been turned into a phone store? According to the WaBizJo, this space was very close to becoming a 2-level BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon. The deal with Western Development fell through and the details are vague, but we’re guessing that AT&T swooped in with a large bag of cash at the zero-hour. BlackFinn then chose to locate in Bethesda.
Teaism Warns Customers About Pickpockets
This weekend, I had a craving for Teaism’s Turkey Apple Sausage. So, I braved the long line of tourists and locals to pick up a mid-afternoon breakfast. But when I got to the front of the line, I was a bit surprised to see a sign on the counter which warned female customers that thieves had been targeting the restaurant.
I went back today and while I was waiting for my order, I decided to inquire about the sign.
It seems that thieves have been loitering in the restaurant preying on women who leave their purses unattended. The gentleman manning the grill seemed to think that most of the victims had been tourists, but once again it pays to be vigilant.
Remember, our neighborhood is safe but it is not crime free.
The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Campaign
A new sign went up recently on the construction fence around Ford’s Theatre advertising The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Campaign. Born February 12th, 1809 Lincoln’s 200th birthday wont happen till next year, but that only means it’s time to start the planning. Some of the events associated with the bicentennial include:

The Lincoln Bicentennial year 2009 will open with a world class concert and entertainment special in the nation’s capital. Nineteenth century popular and patriotic music will be performed by outstanding military bands. Portions of this event will be taped for broadcast television. - Lincoln Memorial Rededication

“Four score and seven years” after President Warren Harding dedicated the Lincoln Memorial on May 30, 1922, the Lincoln Memorial will be rededicated with a memorable public program. The 44th President of the Unites States will be invited to give an address.
“Fun Street” Gets New Name
In the late 1990s, the District christened F Street NW between 6th and 7th “Fun Street”. But while local blog DCist may have loved Fun Street the re-branding never took off and the remaining street signs served as a reminder of marketing gone wrong. Undeterred by a little failure, the District has decided to try again.
Fun Street is now Abe Pollin Way.
While the Washington Wizards owner may be deserving of the honor, the name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Any bets on how long this name change lasts?
