Ward 2 candidate, Cary Silverman, will be hosting a meet & greet at the District Chophouse this Wednesday (2/13) from 6 – 9pm. Silverman’s platform motto, Working for our neighborhoods first, takes aim at the incumbent’s part-time work status when it comes to Council duties.
Drinks and light appetizers served. First drink on the house. No minimum contribution required.

February DNA Meeting Tomorrow Night
The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) will be resuming its monthly meetings tomorrow night at 7 pm but it won’t be in the usual spot. Tomorrow’s meeting will be at 7 pm in the District Chophouse at 509 7th Street, NW.
DC City Council Chairman Vincent Gray will be the guest DC government speaker.

Chinese New Year Celebration Tomorrow
Tomorrow, Chinatown turns festive to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, year 4706, Year of the Rat. The Rat is the first year in the Chinese calendar cycle and Rat people are “charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking.” For the year’s predictions, you can check out Feng Shui master Raymond Lo’s predictions on Yahoo!.
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, an umbrella organization representing thirty Chinese-American organizations throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan area, is hosting the annual Sunday celebration and it includes folk dances, musical bands from various genres and local high schools, a cultural exhibition and a parade. The popular lion and dragon dances, as well as a five-story high firecracker that will be lit at 3:45 p.m., will also be featured in the program.

3:45 pm to 4:15 pm – Lighting of five story high firecracker
Parade – The parade starts at approximately 2 pm in front of 510 I Street and winds its way through the area [PDF] ending on H Street between 6th and 7th Streets. A number of streets in the blocks surrounding the core of Chinatown will be closed as listed here on the DC government’s website. H Street between 6th and 7th is closed from 9 am to 5 pm.
