We have two retail updates for you today…
- Vida Fitness is opening their third installation in the Renaissance Washington Hotel at 999 9th Street, NW in mid-June.
- Alden Shoes, signed by Akridge, will take up residence at 921 F Street, NW, in the retail corridor lining the north side of F Street [PDF] in Carroll Square. Alden Shoes is a custom men’s shoe shop (
sorry ladiesEd. Note: a commenter pointed out that lasts for ladies are available by custom order per the Alden website) also offering belts and shoe trees. We find it interesting that Akridge did their deals with relative speed.
Is F Street in line to be our own downtown version of Chevy Chic (found just over the Friendship Heights line in Chevy Chase)?

Nando’s Restaurant Coming To 819 7th St NW (Old Skate Shop)!
We’ve received word that Nando’s Chicken Restaurant (based out of England South Africa) will be moving into the old Asylum Skate Shop space at 819 7th St NW! Looks like they’ll be giving Hooters (825 7th) some real competition. Check out the menu (pdf). Just remember that the prices on the menu are in British pounds, not dollars.
You may have seen Nando’s sauces in Whole Foods, but this space will be a Nando’s restaurant. It is unclear if this is Nando’s’ first restaurant outside of the United Kingdom in the US. However, it is interesting that international restaurants are choosing to move into our neighborhood. German restaurant, Vapiano, is the other example (there is no time line as to when Vapiano will open on H St because the building is under extensive renovation).
Street Closures Tuesday
Street Closings and Restricted Parking Anticipated for March for Life on January 22
From the press release:
(Washington, DC) The Metropolitan Police Department advises the public that temporary, intermittent street closings and parking restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, to accommodate the annual March for Life. It is anticipated that temporary street closures will include 4th Street, NW, to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and Constitution Avenue, NW, to First Street, NE, from approximately 1 to 4 pm. In addition, due to possible “feeder marches”, there will be anticipated street closures on 7th Street between H Street, NW, and Independence Avenue, SW, and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, from 4th Street to 7th Street. These streets will reopen to vehicular traffic immediately after the marchers pass.
