The National Mall aside, the Penn Quarter doesn’t really have any parks. There is green space around the Building Museum and the old Carnegie Library, but there’s not much else; Except for the many, often professionally manicured, tree boxes.
What’s a dog owner to do? Dogs have to do their business somewhere, and they can’t go to the bathroom on command in a specific spot. But we all like pretty public space and well kept tree boxes certainly add something to the neighborhood.
This isn’t a question of picking up after your dog, all dog owners should do this. People who don’t pick up after their dogs make everyone angry, owners & non-owners alike. We’re wondering if it’s ok for dogs to use tree boxes as bathrooms? Only the unkempt ones? Are tree boxes public property?
Former Arena Rotisserie Chicken Arena Coffee Bar On The Mend
They weren’t just serving chicken at 521 G Street, NW, if you get my drift. We let you know that a while ago but the former Arena Rotisserie Chicken Arena Coffee Bar (that’s what was on the awning) at the intersection of 6th and G Streets, NW, across from the Verizon Center’s garage entrance is now metamorphisizing. PQ Living reported on that too when the building permits hit the wires. The brown wrap is off some of the windows and our “to remain anonymous ears on the street” tell us that the owner hopes (we underline, hopes) for a late January opening. What’s the new joint’s name? The fresh red awnings say Lee Loo Lounge.
Morning View
We caught this fleeting morning view of a worker in his hoodie doing maintenance on the top of a Penn Quarter building. The Capitol outline shows in the lower left. This is a sure fire way to stay awake in the morning.
Penn Quarter Still Reviving?
According to the Washington Times, the Penn Quarter is hitting its stride in the revival category. Mentioned in detail are the National Museum of Crime and Punishment on 7th Street, the Washington Stage Guild’s new 248 seat theatre at the corner of 8th and E Streets and the Textile Museum (also) on 7th Street.
Are we becoming the museum and theater district of Washington?
