The new food vendor vehicle, On The Fly (WaPo story), seems to be looking at local establishments to fill out its menu! In the latest Downtown BID newsletter, we found this bit of info:
On The Fly is a new Ecovending® service open at the southwest corner of 8th and H Streets, making Downtown home to the city’s first green prototype vending stand called the SmartKart. […] The Downtown cart features fresh Mexican tacos, Julia’s Empanadas, natural and organic drinks and snacks weekdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. More carts are opening soon and will feature foods from Downtown eateries, such as Teaism (400 8th Street).

The (recently reunited) Spice Girls are on tour and they are bringing their glitz, glamor and pop to the Verizon Center next February. I know because I saw an event calendar listing the show but I nearly fell out of my chair after seeing the listing. Why? Ticket prices. That’s why.
Funnel Cake? No One Mentioned Funnel Cake!
Sure there have been posts and comments on the blog speaking in general terms about the food this year at the Downtown Holiday Market, but wow: Funnel cake? Donuts? Italian Sausage? Thai? There was no specific mention of any of this!
We were leaving an event at the Reynolds Center early in the evening last night. The Market was still open but very few were out at that hour taking part. It was the first time this blogger had finally opened his eyes to the foods at this wonderful event. We took home a small bag of mini donuts and a generous helping of Pad Thai.
Now before the health food police come after me for posting about greasy goodness, please note PQLiving is not advocating a diet of fair food each day for the rest of your life. But every so often you have to indulge in a little artery clogging fun.

Alert: National Gallery May Expand to FTC Building
Modern Art Notes, by way of DCist, has the scoop on the National Gallery’s planto expand across Constitution Ave into the FTC building (in the Federal Triangle). This deal is not final, but there is a strong possibility that it would go through. This plan also solidifies Washington DC’s museum expansion north of the Mall into Penn Quarter territory. The Newseum on 6th & Penn and Textile Museum on 7th between D & E are already slated for opening. Of course, the Smithsonian Reynold’s Center (8th & F) is the anchor museum and gem of Penn Quarter.
Our biggest question: Do we get a second underground walkway? It would be fun to be able to walk from Penn Quarter to the National Mall without stepping outside!
