Unlike the Washington Welcome Center, Macy’s (12th and G Streets, NW) has waited until the weather is at least cooling off to unveil their Holiday window displays. Today is to be the official unveiling of the Macy’s downtown DC Holiday window display.
Just 34 shopping days till xmas!

Fourth Anniversary Of Street Sense Published
Street Sense, the G Street newspaper that covers homeless issues, recently released it’s fourth anniversary issue. You may have seen Street Sense vendors selling their self-authored and published newspaper within DC – they wear the construction yellow vests. The last time this writer casually picked up a copy of Street Sense, it didn’t take much time to get through the issue and the writing needed some work. Contrast that with the most recent issue which includes interesting statistics about the paper and highlights the success stories of those who have climbed out of homelessness. Throw in a few gut check articles about the DC Government’s efforts to address associated issues and it becomes an interesting and educational read with much improved writing. To be sure, this is not The New York Times but it isn’t meant to be either.
The paper is sold on a voluntary donation basis by authorized individual vendors (they are all badged) who adhere to a Vendor Code of Conduct published in the paper. Vendors get 75% of the purchase price with the rest going to cover production costs. Street Sense is a non-profit organization and it now has a blog, Internet archived back issues and is produced biweekly.

Kogod Courtyard At Eye Level
Tomorrow is the Kogod Courtyard opening from Noon to 6 pm…we mentioned that yesterday. What we’re mentioning today is that Eye Level, the American Art Museum’s own blog, will be blogging live at the opening. EL is encouraging all photobugs to bring their digital cameras, take brilliant photos and contribute to the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s flickr group at http://flickr.com/groups/saam.
