One thing many popular parts of this city have in common is a lack of street parking. Some of us will drive around for 30 mins looking for free parking, rather than pull into a garage and pay to park. With this lack of spaces, some entrepreneurial folks have taken charge of certain streets to assist with parking. We’re dubbing them “Parking Space Jockeys.” You don’t have to pay, but we suspect most people feel obligated to offer up something, even if they would rather have no help at all.
The photo above shows a man we see almost every day on 10th ST between E & F, helping a car pull out of a tight spot. We’ve seen these Parking Space Jockeys in a few other downtown streets, but not that many yet. However if the residential numbers in PQ continue rise, as well as the overall popularity of the area, you can be sure more of our streets will have people waiting to guide you into a parking space.
A Revived Indebleu?
A friend’s birthday was as good a reason as any for drinks, fine dining and some evening hip shaking on a recent Saturday night. Mildly reminiscent of the former Moomba in West Hollywood, the only place in the Penn Quarter where you can get it all in one evening is at Indebleu. Where our little group would spend the evening was not in question. What was in question was whether or not Indebleu’s summer ’07 revamping of their menu and space would live up to its billing. Water Main Issues Shutdown DC Courts
The residents of the Newseum Apartments aren’t receiving a very warm welcome to the Penn Quarter neighborhood.
A water main break has shutdown water service to the D.C. Courts, MPD Headquarters, the Newseum complex, the Canadian Embassy and the bulk of the buildings on C Street between 3rd and 6th NW.
WASA has several crews on the scene trying to repair the problem. A WASA spokesperson told WRC News that the repairs should be complete some time Tuesday night. WASA also cautions that other buildings in the area may experience lower water pressure until the problem is fixed.
Hopefully, whatever made the C Street water main break isn’t contagious. Like most people in Penn Quarter, I need my morning shower.
