Mount Vernon Triangle is just a bit out of reach for this blog. Many of us don’t walk the streets of Mt Vernon Triangle everyday. But, as each residential building is completed in the triangle, there’s more chance of someone starting a neighborhood blog!
300 block of Mass Ave NW: Sonata completed, The Cave retail, four story building gets new windows/renovated, Madrigal Lofts almost complete.
200 block of H St NW: 7-story office building at 251 H ST NW being constructed. The original plan called for 150 residential units.
Signs, Signs, Everywhere There’s Signs
With several new businesses set to open soon, we thought we’d document some of the new signs going up, and mention a favorite. McDonald’s got their new signs up on Friday (but contrary to what employees told us, have still not opened as of Saturday). Out on the town Saturday we noticed that they’d posted the scariest clown photos ever in their window.
I suspect only the twin girls from “The Shining” could find this advertisement appealing, that is one ugly mug.
Bar Louie finally opened, Mrs. Columbo & I checked this out on Friday. I agree with many of the others who wrote in: beer selection is good, music is fun, service is decent, but food isn’t great. The space is huge and fun, but I think it’s drinks only at Bar Louie for this blogger.
West Elm got their new sign recently, can’t wait for this place to open. When all work is completed on the various projects in the Woodies building it should be quite a retail destination.
And finally an old favorite, the sign in the window at B&K News Stand on 10th & F. Sure it’s the same level of humor as Spencer Gifts, but it’s still fun to see a few of these stores survive. This store also has a handwritten sign in the window which reads “no no smoking.” We’re not sure if that’s subtle genius like “we don’t need no education” in Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” or if it’s just a poorly written sign.
Attention Gallery Place Motorcycle Riders: Rev Limiting Is Lame!
For the uninitiated, when you are driving a piece of machinery and the rev limiter kicks in -repetitively-, it is a sign that you can’t handle or operate a manual transmission. Rev limiting may make a lot of noise, but so do farm animals. Maybe these novice motorcycle riders should switch to riding horses down 7th St NW – they’ll have a much better chance at impressing the ladies.
New Downtown Spa
Last night we noticed that a new spa on G ST between 10th & 11th called PR at Partners. This metro center location currently offers only haircuts and makeup, but they plan to offer a full array of spa services.
Prices for each service are based on the individual team member who is working on you. A quick check of the metro center location shows designer cuts that range from $35 to $70.
They opened last Thursday, and there are already several other locations in the DC Metro area. Presumably this location will get a lot more people to notice them once West Elm (directly across the street) has opened.
