Pidzza Announces Presence On 6th St (740 6th St NW)
We passed by the new mixed-use development at 740 6th St NW and saw a sign up that advertises “pidzza” is coming soon. It looks like a pizza chain from an outfit called Pidzza which according to their website is “a new take on America’s favorite food. Our mission is to serve up delicious, gourmet pizza with a Turkish flare.”
We always welcome new small businesses to the neighborhood and hope they are successful. That said, we find the news of more pizza a little bit of a letdown. While we don’t have many good, cheap meals in the area, we do have plenty of pizza–Wiseguy, Matchbox, &pizza, zpizza, etc. What we’ve been noticing recently is that we don’t have much that isn’t food (or clothing by Metro Center). On 14th Street, for example, there are lots of furniture and tchotchke stores. We wish we had some of that instead of more pizza.
Succotash Restaurant Coming To Former Nightclub Space (915 F St NW)
Ed. Note (9/14/17): If you’re looking for the Succotash opening announcement, find it here.
After many years of vacancy we now know what will end up at 915 F St NW, former home to multiple nightclubs. The restaurant Succotash helmed by Chef Edward Lee which has an incarnation in National Harbor will occupy a 9,000 square foot version in Penn Quarter at the F St address. The building was constructed in the early 1900s as a bank. The restaurant will plan to open in March 2017.
From the press release:
KNEAD Hospitality + Design looks to fully explore the charm and sophistication of SUCCOTASH in the 9,000 square-foot home in downtown Washington, complete with three floors and seating capacity for over 350 guests. KNEAD Hospitality + Design will work to preserve the Equitable Bank Building’s original elements, as one of DC Preservation League’s 15 designated historic interior sites in the District of Columbia. SUCCOTASH’s design will honor the building’s original aesthetic, with hints of Greek revival architecture and soaring ceilings, while introducing grand touches evocative of late southern architecture. The new design will enhance its historic declaration, as its previous incarnations were popular clubs The Fifth Column and Platinum.
…
SUCCOTASH DC’s menu will feature favorites from their National Harbor location as well as new selections reflective of DC tastes. In addition to offering lunch and dinner service, plans call to add brunch after SUCCOTASH’s initial opening. An equally impressive bar program is slated to complement Succotash DC’s culinary offerings, featuring over 200 varieties of whiskey and an expansive wine program.
SUCCOTASH DC will be thoughtfully conceptualized to welcome in intimate groups or large numbers of guests, featuring a Chef’s table, multiple bars, and flexible private dining options. With three private and semi private dining spaces that can accommodate parties of up to 350 guests, SUCCOTASH DC is expected to become an in-demand venue for the numerous social and business events that Washington welcomes.
Multiple Washington media outlets covered the news and they have all the juicy pictures so we’re linking them below. If readers are interested in the food that might be served (as we are), check out Succotash’s current menu here.

Foodie Radar: RPM Italian

We were excited to help DC welcome the newest upscale dining scene, RPM Italian (601 Mass. Ave., NW) earlier this week. Based on the glamorous people, sleek decor, and approachable, but indulgent cuisine at the opening party Monday night, this is sure to be a popular spot for the power crowd and local scenesters. From celebrity owners Giuliana and Bill Rancic and Chef Doug Psaltis, RPM Italian DC is open for reservations starting today.
You can find RPM Italian’s menu here.
Giant National Capital BBQ Battle This Weekend On Penn Ave
The Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle is this weekend running both Saturday (June 25) and Sunday (June 26) on Pennsylvania Ave NW between 9th and 14th St NW. Saturday’s festivities run 11 am to 9 pm and Sunday’s from 11 am to 7:30 pm.
From a food perspective, BBQ teams are competing for the best BBQ and $40K in prize money, multiple food vendors will have booths set up, and lots of cooking demonstrations will be ongoing. From a music perspective, there will be two stages featuring 30 bands – EU will cap off the 12th St stage and Marcus Johnson will cap off the 14th St stage. The event map gives a good overall perspective.
Lastly, no food oriented event is complete without Oscar Meyer’s Weinermobile…that will be present too.
