The Hotel Washington isn’t the only outdoor cafe with a great view. Although you wouldn’t know it from these photos where I’ve managed to get a large column in every shot.
Scenes from the Portico outdoor cafe at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery on Sunday. This cafe has been mentioned on the blog before, but this blogger finally got around to checking it out on Sunday. It’s really nice, a split of sparkling white wine is only $11 and it even includes plastic champagne glasses!
The cafe is open in “seasonal weather” daily from 11:30 am till 6:30 pm. Coffee, beer, wine, and other beverages available for pretty reasonable prices. Some food was available as well, but what was available on Sunday was less than tempting.
Does This Look Like a McDonald’s?
This is a photo of the construction of the McDonald’s at 911 E ST, next door to the Artisan. Notice the stone counter in the middle of the photo, then the stone wall at the back of the restaurant. Is this standard for all new McDonald’s locations?
I know it can be a mistake to comment on how the finished product will look based on a photo in the middle of construction, still thought this looked interesting.
Dancing In Your Own Backyard
18th and Connecticut is a nightlife hotspot in DC with ESL, Five and 1223 all in close proximity to each other. Red is now closed but Fly has filled the space with a first class aircraft cabin inspired theme (the hostesses wear “uniforms” and they are not United Airlines standard issue).
Penn Ave To Close For Race For Hope Tomorrow
The 10th Annual Race for Hope 5K is tomorrow which means street closings. The course starts and finishes at Freedom Plaza (13th Street, NW) and threads its way along Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the Capitol, past Independence Ave and back. This course is an out and back (PDF) so I’d expect the entire route to be closed for the duration of the race which starts at 9 am. The DC Government site shows the streets closing from 7 am to 12:30 pm.
