This probably shows a downtown bias, but shouldn’t the Post Office at 12th & Penn AVE NW(Ben Franklin Station) be a showcase Post Office? It is, after all, next door to the Old Post Office and sits on a beautiful stretch of Penn Ave. So why does it appear to be in such a state of disarray?
A visit to the Ben Franklin Post Office this afternoon showed that the only two stamp dispensing machines (circa 1980’s, none of the newer machines like at other DC Post Office locations) were out of order.
As both of these machines were broken, all customers had to wait in line, even for a request as simple as buying stamps. A photo of the line at 3 pm is below, you can imagine what the wait time was like.
The auto parcel machine at the MLK Post Office (14th & L) would seem to be a great fit for the Ben Franklin Station, but if this Post article is correct, all of these machines will be phased out by 2010 anyway.
Don’t forget there is a postage price increase taking effect on May 14th, first class stamps will go up 2 cents, from 39 to 41 cents per stamp.

PS7’s Announces Outdoor Seating & Extends Happy Hour
Just in time for the warmer months, PS7’s announced that they have opened their outdoor patio. We spotted the patio info while scanning the building permits in February.
From the announcement: Now that winter has passed it’s time to enjoy the weather and get outside. We are extending our happy hour to the patio from 5PM to 7PM. The outside dining will be open for lunch and dinner weather permitting Monday through Saturday.

Walk Up To The King
I love the city. We don’t have drive thrus…we have walk ups. The King has his hamburger palace on G Street between 5th and 6th. Gifford’s Ice Cream emporium on E Street between 10th and 11th also has a walk up window. Walk up to one for dinner and then up to the other for dessert.
