Ocean Prime Opening In Fall 2016 In Former Ceiba Space (1341 G St NW)
Ocean Prime, a seafood, steak, and cocktail lounge, will open in the former Ceiba space at the corner of 14th and G St NW in the Fall of 2016. Signage is up in the windows and the web page for the DC restaurant is already up on Ocean Prime’s website. Ceiba closed in September of 2014. and before it was Ceiba, it was Red Sage, a restaurant that closed in 2006 but one we greatly enjoyed as a part of downtown DC’s dining resurgence.
Ocean Prime’s New York City menus can be seen here. Eater DC has a quick write up and we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
Trump’s DC Hotel Will Open In September (1100 Penn Ave NW)
We were fortunate to have a tour of the much buzzed about, in progress Trump Hotel (1100 Penn. Ave NW). Scheduled to open in mid-September, the property is going to be an exceptional example of how to develop historic buildings into a modern, luxury destination.
Room reservations are available starting September 12, 2016 with the lowest before tax price we saw coming in at $775 per night for a Deluxe Room (king bed, and city view – 357 to 513 square feet) and the highest at $29,000 per night for the Trump Townhouse (2 bedrooms each with king bed, dining room, study, living room, and oversized bathrooms – 6300 square feet). The most recent photo renderings can be seen here.
Special event spaces are plentiful including the Presidential Ballroom clocking in at 13,000+ square feet with a reception capacity of 1335 and a private entrance off 11th Street.
A BLT Prime steakhouse will be the opening restaurant and the property will offer spa services.
The clock tower is supposed to be made available for public access but we didn’t see any additional information on how that plan will be implemented. The US Park Service site only states that the building is undergoing renovation.
The Trump Hotel will certainly be a unique addition to the area’s hotel scene and we expect that it will activate that part of Pennsylvania Ave’s sidewalk both day and night.
National Police Week 2016 Events Start In Earnest Tonight
National Police Week begins tonight with the candlelight vigil taking place on the National Mall between 4th and 7th Streets NW. Local denizens are likely to see police walking the neighborhood with black striped shields in remembrance of fallen officers. If you haven’t been to the vigil, it is free and open to all. It is a striking event that we recommend witnessing at least once. Other events take place through Monday, May 16.
The website for National Police Week is here and the schedule is here.
Art on Foot: She Who Must Be Obeyed

We love exploring the neighborhood and cataloging the various public art pieces that engage us and enhance the pedestrian experience.
“She Who Must Be Obeyed” is by the sculptor Tony Smith and was commissioned by the GSA under the Art in Architecture Program in 1974. It’s on D Street, NW between 3rd and 4th Streets. We encourage checking it out!
