Foodie Radar: Kinship
We finally had the chance to enjoy Chef Eric Zeibolds new restaurant, Kinship (1015 7th St NW). Every singe dish was perfection! We especially recommend the Lobster French Toast, the halibut with asparagus and tarragon (pictured here, tastes like Spring!), the torching of mushroom, the chocolate chip cookie soufflé and salted caramel peanut bar. This will definitely be added to our list of favorite restaurants and re-visited until we’ve been able to eat through the whole menu (especially that whole roasted foie gras for the table!). Thank you, Chef, for bringing us a sophisticated, but accessible, fine dining option for everyday feasting.
NCPC Hosts FBI Building Square Guidelines Public Meetings (4/26 & 4/28)
We heard from the National Capital Planning Commission as they are hosting a public meeting regarding the potential redevelopment of the FBI Building (9th to 10th St and E St to Penn Ave). The details are below:
FBI Building Square Guidelines Public Meetings
NCPC wants public input on the development of square guidelines that will shape potential redevelopment of Squares 378 and 379 on Pennsylvania Avenue, currently occupied by the FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover Building. Square guidelines influence the size and shape of the building as well as providing guidance on general land use and urban design.
At this meeting, NCPC staff will provide information and accept comments on the following items:
- The history of Pennsylvania Avenue, the development of the square guidelines, and the review process for future redevelopment of Squares 378 & 379.
- The potential topics (such as building envelope, circulation, design, general land use) that will be included in NCPC’s draft square guidelines.
- An analysis of different building heights for squares 378 and 379 and an analysis of varying build-to-lines for Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Please Note: Both public meetings will cover the same material.

Art On Foot: Chagall
As many times as we’ve enjoyed the sculpture garden (9th and Constitution, NW) at the NGA, we were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this beautiful wall by Marc Chagall tucked back in a grove. Jazz in the Garden, a neighborhood favorite, starts May 27th.
Frozen Yogurt Coming To Bakers & Baristas (7th and E St NW)
UPDATE (4/18/16): The take out window is now open with the base cost for Tangysweet frozen yogurt coming in at $5. Photo to the right is as of Sunday, April 17.
Frozen yogurt is coming back to Penn Quarter after all the specialty fro-yo shops closed, specifically Frozen Yo and Tangysweet. The Washington Post has the details on the store inside a store concept that will see Bakers & Baristas (501 7th St NW) open up a pop up to sell frozen yogurt during the summer and soups and hot chocolate during the winter. Initial hours are 11 am to 11 pm daily.
