Nordstrom Rack Taking Over Old Barnes & Noble (555 12th St NW – 12th & E)
Well, that didn’t take long. The Washington Business Journal reports that Nordstrom Rack will open in the former Barnes & Noble space at the corner of 12th and E St NW (the address is technically 555 12th St NW). This new store will clock in at 37,000 square feet…impressive! That brings the total number of discount clothing big boxish stores in downtown’s East End to three, the other two being Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. Happy shopping!
Opening Soon: Buttercream Bakeshop
The much-anticipated Buttercream Bakeshop (1250 9th St NW) is expected to open in April. Tiffany MacIsaac (former head pastry chef at Neighborhood Restaurant Group) and her partner in “cream” Alexandra Mudry Till will be whipping up delectable sweets with artful touches for the everyday and special occasion. Already a favorite within the events industry, the bricks and mortar spot is sure to be the perfect icing on the ever popular Blagden Alley area cake. Get your orders in today for Mothers Day or just a lazy Sunday breakfast in bed!
Umaya Izakaya (Sushi and Ramen Too) Makes Progress (733 10th St NW)
The ground floor of the Skanska building at 733 10th St NW will turn into Umaya Izakaya soon we hope. The construction boards are now gone, the restaurant’s website is up, the Twitter account is on, and we read about an unverified April opening date.
