E Street McDonald’s Assailant Suspects Arrested
On the night of February 12, two members in a group of teens assaulted a patron at the McDonald’s in the 900 block of E Street NW across the street from the FBI building. The Washington Post reported that two juvenile suspects have been arrested for the crime; multiple cameras captured the assault on video.
We continue to observe teens gathering in a few places around the neighborhood and remind neighbors to be conscious of their surroundings when they are out and about in downtown DC and Penn Quarter. We also see law enforcement, MPD and Metro Transit Police, continue to put resources in the right places to keep a lid on these types of crimes.
The good news is that the neighborhood has gotten past the epoch when the problem was much more serious.
History on Foot: FDR Memorial
How many of you have walked passed the corner of 9th and Pennsylvania and never noticed this small, nondescript white block near the National Archives? It’s no wonder, it hardly appears to be anything significant. Compared to the grandeur of Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington’s monuments, it would be easy to think FDR wasn’t as loved or revered of a president. In fact, it was his request that if a memorial were to be made, it be this simple and on this exact spot.
Fast Casual Vegan To Show Up From HipCityVeg (712 7th St NW)
We spotted a new window banner for HipCityVeg in the heart of the 7th Street strip at 712 7th St NW (between G and H). This is the first HipCityVeg, a fast casual vegan restaurant, outside Philadelphia and per the signage plans to open in the Spring of 2016. According to the store’s vegan philosophy:
HipCityVeg® meets a need that exists almost everywhere for high quality food that is fresh and fast. Our food is 100% plant based. It tastes better and is more satisfying.
You can see the menu for the Philadelphia stores here. More on the concept from Eater DC is here.
